“Be what you will, you nameless Beyond – as long as this self of mine stays true to me … Be what you will, as long as I can take mySelf with me. Externals are only the varnish on a man: I am my own
Heaven and Hell.”
Friedrich Schiller’s – “The Robbers” play (1781)
Where Purgatory Ends
It is a story filled with of metaphors, transposed into graphic works by the artist of Romanian origin Costin Chioreanu, best known for his graphic design works (Twilight 13 Media) in the area of illustration
of musical products (Ulver, Aura Noir, Mayhem, Absu, Grave, Ava Inferi, Centinex, Destroyer666) and also his musical collaborations with important names from the Romanian Underground scene (Nightpray, Mediocracy, Cap De Craniu, Protest Urban, Kandaon, My Shadow, Deviant, Subway Night Orchestra). Under the name “Where Purgatory Ends” an exhibition of graphics will be exclusively presented, that can be visited in the RYMA spaces, within the Alba Iulia Citadel, during the course of Dark Bombastic Evening 3 (19 – 20 August 2011). The exhibition will also have a soundtrack, composed and recorded by the artist himself, especially for this event.
“I have never made my way up to the stars, nor have I ever got out of the earth’s atmosphere. I have never been in the depths of the earth to see if there is still dirt, rocks and sands there or if another
world reigns, I have never been thousands of feet deep to see if I can breathe, leaving my lungs to be invaded by water. Almost everything I know I was told. Certainties, whether still in the process of being formed or not, are close to me, the me existing under the shell of the flesh and bones, the one without name, shape or order number. I see life as a tiny part of a long journey. The journey is not about shape or state of aggregation, not even about the thresholds that must be passed. I don’t know if this is so, while no one around can confirm my ideas or prove the opposite. All I know is that this thought makes me be what I am and everyone around me cherish, concealing it or not, a real passion for what could be beyond death or before life. Some have found their answers more easily; I chose to still look for them.
‘Where Purgatory Ends’ is an ironic title, because clearly I have no idea how the end of the road will look like, or if it will ever end. Therefore, I hope that many of those who will come to see the works or
listen to the music will appreciate this artistic event as a celebration of our path in and towards becoming. ”
